Political Turmoil

When the family dynamics

are disrupted because of different opinions.

The arguments get heated

and everybody gets involved.

The only thing worse

is when religion gets added.

Yet, sometimes these arguments

can turn into discussions

and it is not the target

but one of the listeners.

The Sickness Spreads

As my throat continues to scratch

I hurt more and more.

My body aches

and the chills do not balance out the fever.

In the morning

I will still be the chauffer to the one

who passed on this nasty virus to me.

A side effect

of the job and all the dangers it entails.

Now if only

my body would allow me to sleep.

Regaining Trust

It takes time,

patience and a willingness for the possibility to lose.

It is trying to understand

what you did wrong

and hoping to show them you have changed.

Whether it works

is up to them

but for you it is still a valuable lesson.

Give it time and you both may be surprised

or you will have one more regret.

But the effort in trying

can be more important than the results.

ADHD

It runs in the family

Attention is all over the place

And our focus is questionable

Who can help

You or me

Energy used for brain work

Interferes with physical limitations

Patience is needed

Early Morning

The weekend has arrived.

Appointments are still waiting.

Stumbled out of bed.

Time to get dressed.

The stomach rumbles

Reminding about breakfast.

Most importantly the magic liquid

Coffee.

My friend.

Delighting my taste buds

As you assist the higher functions

In propelling me along.

Phone Calls

Most these days are unpleasant.

A burden or a chore to make

or take.

Telemarketers try to hide themselves

as a number from your zip code

while some 800 ‘s just make you cringe.

Then there are the ones to be made

in order that your schedule

is on schedule,

Gone are the days

when phone calls surprised and made you happy.

So are the days of our lives.

Sympathy

When you feel discomfort

at someone else’s pain.

Their circumstances

intolerable to them,

Uncomprehending to you

makes you unsure

of the words or gestures to do.

So smile and pat them on the shoulder

and do what you can

perhaps just listening

or sitting with them for awhile.

Even if your discomfort rises

at least you

are not in their shoes!

Selfishness does not belong here.
