Masks to hide behind.
Open and smiling.
Religious coverings.
medical necessities.
prevention measures.
Eyes that shine
or dull and lifeless.
Smiles that beam
or crack falsely.
Cheeks to dimple
and mouths to speak.
Ears to listen
and noses to breathe.
We all have to face each other
after we face ourselves.
Big yellow eyes stare up at you
wanting you to pick up the string.
Meows to remind you
or else your slippers get attacked.
Pouncing and prowling
waiting for a chance to strike
as the string moves aimlessly
unsure of what it wants in this life.
The string is hers to destroy
and the chewed ends prove it.
She is adorable and I love her.
My miniature panther Midnight.
I just don’t like your leader.
I find your morals to be unacceptable
and quite frankly you smell.
If you would only change who you are
to fit into my life perfectly
I would find you more acceptable.
Until then,
leave my sight!
Watching the expressions
Seeing them smile
Not missing their reactions
to your bad puns
or their sarcastic replies.
Voice connection is meaningful
but there is something
about seeing a loved one’s face
that makes it all worthwhile!
I always wondered
When would you leave.
Flying the nest
That I tried to keep clean.
I was never your friend
Because you were my child
But my favourite is gone
And I cannot help but mourn.
I miss your smile
Your sarcastic replies
But most of all
I miss you
My dear, dear
Sweet child.
Wear a mask
Social distance when in public
Be careful
Stay six feet away
Stay inside
Don’t see friends
Do not visit restaurants
or stores
unless necessary
Go crazy
from the isolation
and not getting any breaks from the children!
Fear the plague
and maybe don’t be a jerk to your neighbours?
When the times are bleak
They still want to see you.
When times are good
Laughter fills up your soul.
When times are stressful
They help relieve the burdens.
They are what make life worth living for.
Wiped out
Drained
Emotionally unstable
Forgot to take pills
Exhausted
Body wants sleep
Brain wants awake
Body sorta winning
Too many things to do
Yet no motivation
oh
and it’s raining
meh
what a day
It is not often
I am up for the sun’s arrival.
In the grey misty light
sipping my coffee
I contemplate
what the world
offers me.
Or at least
for the day ahead of me.
She’s the cutest thing
you ever did see.
Sleek and black
and sometimes elegant.
Ferocious in a heartbeat
when jealousy attacks
then calm and collected
as if nothing was the matter.
She is a cat
after my own heart.
