Comic book Heroes

I did not know a lot of them as |I grew up.

The few I saw where in the papers

or from television.

Cartoons on Saturday morning were the main source

of cartoon entertainment.

So comics came into my life late.

The ones I always loved were the women

because even back then

I knew the struggles we had were always going to be

harder

stronger

more meaningful

because of the society we lived in.

Still, I learned to swim like the Man from Atlantis

and tried to spin my way into my costume

like Wonder Woman.

Dizzy now that I the true hero was always me

and my fight for inequality

for me and my children.

I have outgrown my parents

and seek to leave a better world for the future generations.

10 Thousand Years Old

Give or take

10 thousand years

of course.

Simply the old computer has died.

So in comes the new one

and so does all the backups and passwords

and frustrations when you can not

do the things you used to do.

Click this button and voila!

Nope.

Maybe tomorrow.

If I can maneuver through the technical stuff.

That should take me at least a thousand years or so.

The Door

He waits there crying.

He thinks he wants to go out.

The door is opened

and the world outside is revealed.

So is the crisp cold air.

The temperatures are dropping

but he comes back inside quickly.

Then he heads to the back door

and starts crying there.

He thinks if we open this door

the temperature outside

will be miraculously changed.

He is often disappointed when he discovers it is not.

Still, he waits each morning

crying to go out.

Silly cat.

No.

We have no control over the weather.

Despite what you want us to do.

Hard conversations

When you feel uncomfortable

Because of a history shared.

Standing up for yourself

Or for someone else

Makes you feel like falling over.

Fear creeps along the back of your skull

Because unknown reactions

Have been the previous norms.

Still it needs to be done.

So you do it.

Crawling under your blanket

And crying

comes after they are gone.

Fight of the Century

It starts off slow.

A simple question.

A defiant answer.

Voices rising.

Consequences stated.

Consequences not effective.

Tears and recrimination.

Anger as curses explode.

A door slammed.

Quiet for a moment

while crying is heard behind the door.

What does it take these days to get this child to attend online classes?

That answer is one I do not have.

Too bad I have no liquor to spike my morning coffee with.

I could use a relaxant right now.

The Sun Seems Nice

The rays filtering through the window pane

look all rosy and warm.

The shine of the light welcomes the morning

as the kitchen starts to bustle.

Looking outside sees the fallen leaves

which are multicoloured spread across the ground.

Wait.

Is that?

It is.

Frost.

Fall has come and looks like it is leaving.

So much for a hoping for another mild autumn day.

Winter has just announced its arrival.

Forgotten Ring

Lost wedding bands,

Engagement rings

or simply cubic zirconia’s.

Gold inlaid

Silver and platinum

or an alloy for the band.

Diamonds

Rubies or Sapphire’s

compete with the emerald for decorations.

I wonder whose ring this is?

I do not even remember where I found it.

All I know is it is not mine since it fits on none of my fingers.
