Worn to protect.
Ubiquitous with danger.
Leaks are terrifying.
Who is the culprit of this now iconic, classic symbol of safety?
More importantly, why is nobody wearing them daily?
When I Awake
To cars crashing.
To the body demanding fluid relief.
To children crying.
To eyes that refuse to weep.
To burning oxygen.
To lungs clouded and diseased.
To buildings collapsing.
To hunger that never weakens it grip.
To a world of pain.
To the morning light which shines a new dawn.
To anything
that says I’m still alive.
Maintaining the Peace
Truces are hard to negotiate.
Generosity is expected.
Trust is implied.
Compromise is demanded.
Vulnerability is weakness.
Yet the strength of those who seek it
Gain a selfless forgiveness.
Slobber
Drool runs down
Onto the blanket.
Onto the pillow
Staining the sheets.
Friends laugh when the dog does it.
Lovers are usually not so forgiving.
Get over it
A simple phrase.
One packed with meaning.
These days gaslighting the victims.
Trauma induced is not easily dismissible
Unless you are non emphatic.
Healing takes time
And trauma compounds.
Don’t mock those who have been hurt.
It only proves how selfish you really are.

She will get into things
if left unsupervised.

Why won’t she go back to sleep?!
When work needs work
Looking for a job requires energy
and commitment.
Going to interviews, even on line
requires patience and confidence.
Acquiring the longed for paycheck
takes diligence and determination.
What happens
when you have nothing to give?
You work on yourself
before you can work for others.
