Doing the Best I Can

I have never been a good

parent.

I have never been a good

housekeeper.

I have never been a good

wife.

Or mother

or friend

or companion

or esteemed artist

or budding musician

or loyal politician

or even a general handy person.

But I am good at being me

flawed

and ever so imperfect.

Because even though I may never excel

at one thing

I am not bad at a lot of the important stuff.

When only the few Remember

It is not lest we forget.

It is remember and teach.

Look around and see the changes

happening right before our eyes.

See the ones who ignore

and the ones who stand idly by.

Watch for the moment when things go bad

because then it will be too late

and you will be one of them!

Then the peace so heartbreakingly won

will be meaningless

because we let the war begin again!

The Scarcest Resource

Diamonds are plentiful.

So are the oil barrels.

When people think of what we have

they think of material gain.

The one thing they forget is to see the future

and what we have left for the rest of the world.

Some don’t care what their impact is

others do but have no choice

but to give in to societal pressures.

For the greatest resource and the one that is so hard to find

is this planet that we live on.

It is unique.

It is one of a kind!

Mismanaging Time

Scurry here.

Wave your wand there.

Try to get all the things done.

Move faster than light

and you still have no time.

Things must be ready.

Ready for what?

For life!

To be conscious and awake!

To be able to breathe!

Love the ones you call family!

Be a friend to others!

To be yourself and like it!

If only I had enough time!

Conflicting Sorrows

When the sadness spirals further down

and you can not tell the difference

between a good day and a bad day

it is a sign you need help.

The guilt that comes from needing help

may prevent you from seeking it.

That is when you need intervention

and hope you have a good friend

who will rally to your side.

Otherwise, the sadness will be for you

and because of you

as we attend our funeral.

Worries, worries, worries

Fret, fret and pace the hall.

What to do if it should fall?

Where will I go if I can not pay?

Who will help me when they come to call?

Too many worries scramble my brain.

The day will come but today is not that day.

Plan for the future but do not stress about the change.

Change will come and you will survive anyway.

Toast and Jam

The morning is complete with breakfast.

Coffee to enjoy, or juice if you please,

but food is all essential to get you moving.

Eggs, scrambled or over easy help with the protein punch.

Cheese and meat give you energy.

The traditional start for some is simply divine

toast with the jam of the season.

Today there is no jam.

The Monster is never far Away

It hides always waiting.

It does not strike fast

unless it feels confident

that all your precautions are depleted.

Sometimes it sees the crack in your armor

and moves without sound

sliding between the defenses

meant to keep it out.

The problem is in thinking

that the monster is outside of you.

In trying to keep it from entering you again.

You see the monster depression

once it enters,

it never leaves

and you will battle it

for the rest of your life.
