Ownership is ninth/tenths of the law.
Yet whose law is it?
Is it right to keep something
just because you found it?
Stealing happens when you take something
that is not yours.
So what happens when you steal something
and then change the laws about it.
Can changing the laws really justify your actions?
I guess a lawyer might know.
Though their answer will depend on what laws they are defending.
The prism sits innocuously
Waiting for the right moment to shine.
So will we
when the light hits us perfectly
and everyone can see
we are made up of all the colours of the rainbow.
Another circle around the sun.
Yet the day does not bring happiness.
He refuses to celebrate the day
because of his curse.
No one can exceed his expectations.
So he doesn’t want anyone to try.
I am finally coming to terms with his request.
He lives and I love him.
I will celebrate his life everyday I get to see him.
Shower time.
Outside it falls.
Inside the skin is filthy.
Water is essential.
Love the liquid that loves you.
A time to reflect
and enjoy family,
friends and life.
For most people
it is a celebration
that embodies happiness.
Yet the animals
the noises it inflicts on them
means distress and can lead to sorrow.
Who cares about those
you do not consider family?
Or is the world now
you against them?
Looking behind me
Never seeing perfection
We want to be better.
Yet ideals are not broken
Merely changed
As growth becomes our mantra.
I see the mistakes I made
And wonder how to prevent them in the future.
Habits and memories
Make some reactions worse than others.
The best I can do
Is look towards the coming days
And try to find the strength needed
To be the person I want to be.
Don’t mean that much to me.
Anything I have to celebrate is minor.
Not noteworthy.
Patriotism is too engulfing.
Birthdays are awkward.
Maybe I could throw a divorce party?
Or just hide in my room
and let the children weep.
You have wisdom behind you.
The future is still there.
Plans seem less insistent.
Yet planning is still needed.
How you look matters less
since the only ones who care
is the ones in the fashion industry.
Age is not a liability.
Sometimes it is the greatest asset you could own.
Behind every great man
There is a great woman.
Without women
humans would not be able to survive.
Women can exist without men.
Immaculate conception may be scientifically possible.
So why are we following them?
We need to be heard.
We need to be united
and love those who we have
and not decry the woes inflicted upon us
by the ones seeking to contain our power.
