The Enemy Within

The house will fall.

Mirrors shatter inside.

Windows break

As the tears leak out.

Shudders run through

as the façade crumbles.

My beating heart

falters as the ghosts gain purpose.

I can not control

what is left of my sanity

and what was built around me

destroys itself

as I flail in cold loneliness.

Cold Nights

Huddled under the blanket.

The only warmth

to be found

is in the space occupied

by my body.

Fetal position.

Legs cramping.

Stretching them

before pulling them back

into the only warmth found

despite the cramps.

Too cold to do anything

but shiver.

The night lasts longer

when sleep

is overridden by need for not freezing.

Tough

When the will is exceeded.

Strength defied.

Energy spent

and not returned.

How tough

does one have to be

in order to realize

not all strength

is a sign of being tough

but merely a handful of thoughts

Society wants us to exhibit?
