Double Dare

Why do we do these stupid competitions?

Are they really that much fun?

Do we like to make fools of ourselves that much?

Or can we stop cringing at the sight of people in pain?

We call ourselves sophisticated and yet we laugh at the dumbest things.

Can you stop yourself from being a jerk?

I dare ya!?

Summer Time

Most people will enjoy the nicer weather.

Go outside and be active.

Me, I’ll hide in the dark house

with the curtains drawn close

trying to keep the air cooler inside than the outside.

If I have to venture out

I try to keep it to a minimum.

I am the summer’s hermit.

Just like in the winter

but for the opposite reason.

Canada is my Country

I care about Canada.

It is my country.

I care about it so much

that I am willing to leave it.

I care about the people

and the ones who shape it.

The newly arrived,

the baby’s breaths

and the inhaled impression

of freshly landed immigrants

or the ones we displaced

when we first came here.

We are all in this together

and we are stronger for it.

So when I go visit other homes

I take care to be nice to them

for everyone has their own story to tell

and should I be asked

I will sometimes tell mine.

Due Diligence

Expectations are high.

The effort is put in.

The event is now over.

A few disappointments

but the party was fun.

Most people were happy

so that was the point.

The main focus

was on the family

and is that not the best part

of any social gathering!

Family is Love

That is what society says right.

Most families do love each other.

Not always verbally

sometimes it is only by actions.

Yet not all families love all members.

What happens to the outcasts?

What about the hurtful abusers?

What about the orphaned?

If family is so important

why are so many dysfunctional?

Yet family is family

and it may not always be love

that binds them together

but family is still important.

Judgemental Much

Why is it easier to see someone

and find theirs faults

before their beauties?

No one has the same life experiences

so no one can truly understand

what the other person

has been through.

So look closer at that homeless man

or the mother with the screaming child

and see how strong they are to still have survived.

Admitting Your Mistakes

It is easy to say “I’m Sorry”

but to actually mean it

you need to do something that shows

how you regret your mistake.

Getting angry

and making the mistake bigger

only leads to alienation

and isolation.

No one is perfect

but you are awesome

and you are loved!

Telemarketers and Scammers

That phone call.

The one where it’s a recorded message.

Telling you won a free trip, window installation, or a pen.

Sometimes it is a person

and they ask for your time.

My favorite are the surveys

trying to get more information about you.

Just hang up.

I do.

Until the next phone call.

Sometimes I’ll block it.

Usually I’ll just laugh.

Time

We have warped our reality.

Progression is seen as detrimental.

People are fighting for air.

Someone else is always to blame.

Technology may be different

but we still have the same problems

as yesteryear.
